L. DUO IS DONE!

WELL, HERE IT IS ALL DONE!
I THINK IT'S THE OLDEST LOOKING RUG
I'VE HOOKED YET, THANKS TO THE WONDERFUL
WOOLS THAT MADE IT SO EASY TO DO.

I PULLED THE LAST LOOP BEFORE SUPPER
YESTERDAY AND BOUND IT LAST NIGHT.
I STEAMED IT THIS MORNING. AFTER PONDERING
IT I DECIDED TO REVERSE HOOK THE ONE
BLUE PETAL IN THE LOWER FLOWER TO
PETUNIA PINK (WHAT I'M CALLING FADED RED)
AND USED THE BLUE ON THE TWO TOP CORNER
FLOWERS. I LIKE THE BALANCE OF HOW IT LOOKS.
WHAT A CHICKEN I WAS ALL THOSE YEARS
TO NOT HOOK THIS RUG! BUT THEN AGAIN, I
WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THE WOOLS I USED ON IT NOW
SO I'M GLAD I WAITED. SOME RUGS JUST FLOW
TOGETHER SO WELL AND THAT IS HOW
THIS ONE WENT FOR ME.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

LIGONIER DUO PROGRESS

I'M MAKING GOOD PROGRESS ON MY RUG
AND THE MORE I GET DONE THE MORE
I AM LOVING IT. YOU CAN CLICK
ON THE PIC TO ENLARGE IT. IF YOU RECALL IN
MY PREVIOUS POST I HAD A GREEN CENTER
AND STEM ON THE BLUE FLOWER UP IN
THE RIGHT HAND CORNER. I PULLED THE
GREEN OUT AND USED THE DARK BROWN I
USED IN THE BORDER FOR THE FLOWER STEMS
INSTEAD AND I USED ONE OF THE NEW
R.E. WOOLS FOR THE FLOWER CENTERS &
LITTLE LINES BETWEEN THE PETALS.
I LIKE IT MUCH BETTER. YOU MAY THINK
THE BLUE PETAL DOESN'T SHOW UP VERY
MUCH IN THE BOTTOM FLOWER AND YOU WOULD
BE RIGHT BUT THAT IS THE WAY I WANTED IT
TO LOOK. LIKE OVER TIME THE PETAL HAS FADED
ALMOST INTO THE BACKGROUND. THE WOOL I USED
AROUND THE BOTTOM FLOWER IS BELOW. I CAN'T
REMEMBER IF THIS IS A R.E. OR BETSY WOOL BUT
I'VE HAD IT FOR A WHILE. I DIDN'T USE THE BLUE
STRIPE, JUST THE GRAY PART.
WHAT I'M CALLING THE RED WOOL IN THE FLOWERS
IS CALLED PEONY PINK IN THE NEW R.E. SAMPLES.
TO ME IT LOOKED LIKE A SOFT OLD FADED
RED AND I KNEW IT WOULD BE PERFECT FOR
WHAT I WANTED TO DO. THE BLUE IS ALSO IN
THE NEW FLYER AND CALLED PAINTED CUPBOARD BLUE.
I ALREADY HAD SOME OF THAT IN MY STASH.
IT'S ONE THAT REBECCA HAS GOTTEN BACK IN AND
ALWAYS A FAVORITE. I AM ALSO USING
COBBLESTONE NUBBY FROM HER NEW SAMPLES
FOR THE FLOWER CENTERS, LITTLE LINES BETWEEN
THE PETALS AND THE SMALL AREAS ABOVE AND
BELOW THE CENTER PETALS. I AM PLANNING
ON USING THIS WOOL IN THE OUTSIDE BORDER AS WELL.
WE GOT YET MORE SNOW AND IT WAS ONLY
IN THE TEENS LAST NIGHT SO STILL GOOD
RUG HOOKING WEATHER. WE SHALL
SEE HOW MUCH I CAN GET DONE TODAY.
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
WE ARE PRAYING FOR ALL THOSE
AFFECTED BY THE TRAGEDY IN BOSTON.
UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI

LIGONIER DUO RUG

HERE IS THE RUG I MENTIONED IN
MY LAST POST I WOULD BE STARTING.
IT IS LIGONIER DUO BY WOOLLEY FOX.
IT'S A REPRODUCTION OF AN ANTIQUE RUG
IN BARB'S COLLECTION. THERE ARE TWO
SIZES AND MINE IS THE SMALLER VERSION.
IT MEASURES 19" X 30".
I'M STILL WAITING ON MY NEW WOOL
FROM REBECCA ERB BUT IT SHOULD BE
HERE ANY DAY. IN THE MEANTIME I
CAN HOOK THE OTHER CAT WHICH I THINK
I WILL USE THE SAME WOOLS AS THE
FIRST CAT. I'M MOSTLY USING 8.5 CUTS.

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

SOME SAMPLERS

DO YOU REMEMBER THIS SAMPLER?
I STARTED STITCHING IT TWO YEARS AGO.
IT'S NOT AN EXACT COPY BUT INSPIRED BY
AN ANTIQUE SAMPLER I SAW ONLINE.
I OVER DYED SOME DMC FLOSS TO
GET A NEAT SHADE OF BLUE I CALL
OLD CUPBOARD BLUE!
IT'S NOT AS BRIGHT AS IT APPEARS IN THE PIC.
HERE IS THE POST FROM TWO YEARS AGO:
I RECENTLY CAME ACROSS IT STUCK AWAY IN A
CUPBOARD AND DECIDED TO FINISH STITCHING IT.
I LOVE THE WAY IT TURNED OUT. THE BASKET
WAS SO NEAT I DECIDED TO PUT ONE ON
EACH SIDE ON THE BOTTOM.
THE ANTIQUE SAMPLER IS BELOW:
THE LITTLE BLUE AND REDWARE BORDER DESIGN
IS NEAT TOO. I'M THINKING OF OFFERING THIS
SAMPLER FOR SALE AT A FUTURE DATE BUT
I HAVE TO FIND OR HAVE A FRAME MADE FOR IT.

I ALSO SHOWED THIS SAMPLER TO YOU A FEW
MONTHS AGO BUT HADN'T FRAMED IT YET.
I PAINTED A PINE FRAME AND GOT
IT PUT TOGETHER THIS WEEK.
THIS DESIGN IS BY MY FRIEND TINA WOLTMAN.
YOU CAN FIND THE LINK TO HER PT AND PATTERNS
AT THE TOP OF MY BLOG ON THE LEFT.
I'M KEEPING THIS ONE!
IT IS NOW HANGING IN OUR BACK ENTRY WITH
ANOTHER SMALLER SAMPLER OF SIMILAR SHADES.

WE HAVE BEEN GETTING MORE SNOW FOR THE PAST
COUPLE OF DAYS AND SUPPOSED TO STILL GET SOME
FOR A COUPLE MORE SO I DECIDED TO START HOOKING
A RUG. I'VE HAD THIS RUG IN MY STASH FOR A FEW
YEARS AND HAVEN'T HOOKED IT YET. I MUST
CONFESS THE BORDER HAS INTIMIDATED ME!
SO I DECIDED IT'S HIGH TIME I BITE THE BULLET
AND JUST GO FOR IT!!! STAY TUNED FOR A
GLIMPSE OR TWO IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
I DO WANT TO USE 2~3 NEW WOOLS I HAVE ON
ORDER FROM REBECCA ERB SO I MAY NOT HOOK
TOO MUCH UNTIL THEY GET HERE THIS WEEK.

HAVE A GLORIOUS WEEKEND WHEREVER
YOU ARE!
UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

OUR NEW....OLD TABLE

THIS IS OUR NEW CIRCA 1870~1880 DROP LEAF
FARM TABLE WITH GREEN PAINT.
I SAW IT ON PINTEREST AND FOLLOWED
THE LINK. THE SHOP HAPPENED TO BE
IN NORTHERN MN AND A 6~7 HOUR DRIVE
FROM US. I KNEW THAT WOULD BE DOABLE
TO PICK IT UP SO I BOUGHT IT.
I SOLD OUR REPRODUCTION TABLE TO MAKE
ROOM. WE WENT THIS PAST WEEKEND TO GET
IT. GOING UP THERE ON FRIDAY THE ROADS WERE BARE.
WE WENT RIGHT TO THE SHOP AND WITH THE OWNERS
HELP GOT IT COVERED GOOD IN PLASTIC WRAP
AND LOADED. WE SPENT THE NIGHT THERE
AND GOT UP EARLY TO START THE TRIP HOME
ON SATURDAY.
WE KNEW SNOW WAS PREDICTED BUT WE
WENT ANYWAY. THIS IS WHAT WE WOKE UP
TO. THE TABLE IS LOADED
IN OUR UTILITY TRAILER BEHIND MY CAR.
 IT STARTED COMING DOWN HEAVY
SO WE HIT THE ROAD BY 8 AM. WE DROVE
IN SNOW FOR OVER AN HOUR AND THEN IT TURNED
TO RAIN SO THE ROADS WERE JUST WET THEN.
THE PLASTIC COVERING GOT PLENTY
WET BUT THANKFULLY THE TABLE
WAS NICE AND DRY UNDERNEATH.
THE LEGS ARE TAPERED.
THERE IS A NARROW DRAWER ON EACH
SHORT END. ONE HAS SOME SECTIONS IN IT.
THE OTHER IS PERFECT FOR STORING
SOME PLACE MATS.
THE ONE LEAF MUST HAVE BEEN DOWN
FOR YEARS AS THE PAINT IS STILL PRETTY
GOOD ON IT AND THE REST OF THE TOP
HAS BEEN SCRUBBED CLEAN OVER THE YEARS.
I DON'T MIND....THAT IS THE HISTORY
AND CHARACTER OF THE PIECE.
BRIAN WAS SO CUTE THO...HE SAID WE
COULD LEAVE THAT SIDE DOWN! :-)
THERE IS A GOOD SIZE DIP IN THE TOP.
MAYBE A KNOT WAS THERE....MAYBE IT
JUST GOT WORN THERE FOR SOME REASON.
THE LEGS LOOK OAK TO ME AS THE PAINT
IS PRETTY WORN OFF THEM BUT THE TOP
IS PINE. IT'S A PERFECT FIT IN OUR DINING ROOM.
I ALSO FOUND THIS NEAT SMALLER TOTE WHILE THERE.
IT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF A BROWNISH LOOKING PAINT
STILL ON IT. VERY PRIMITIVE WITH SQUARE NAILS.

THE HANDLE CAUGHT MY EYE AS IT HAD THESE
NEAT CURVES ON EACH END TO MAKE IT UNIQUE.

A BIG THANK YOU TO SHOP OWNERS
BRUCE AND ELAINE PETERSON
OF BACK~ N~TIME ANTIQUES
IN BEMIDJI, MN.
CLICK HERE TO VISIT THEIR SHOP ONLINE.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

STAR QUILT FINISHED

IT DOESN'T LOOK VERY BIG IN THIS PICTURE
BUT IT IS! IT'S 56" SQUARE.
THE BLOCKS ARE 8" FINISHED.
I HAND QUILTED THE FAN PATTERN
STARTING AT THE BOTTOM AND WORKING TO THE
TOP FROM RIGHT TO LEFT.

MISS ZOE CHECKING THINGS OUT.
IF IT'S ON THE FLOOR SHE MUST INVESTIGATE!
SHE'S LOOKING A BIT SHAGGY.
OUR SWEET GROOMER GAL IS TAKING
SOME TIME OFF WITH HER NEW BABY.
ZOE GOES IN TWO WEEKS TO GET
BEAUTIFIED AGAIN.

WISHING ALL A LOVELY DAY.
UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

GIFT FOR A FRIEND

MY DEAR FRIEND KATHY TURNED 60
YESTERDAY ON EASTER SUNDAY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY!!
WE GOT TOGETHER TODAY AND I GAVE
HER THIS GIFT I MADE FOR HER.
IT'S A PATTERN MANY WILL RECOGNIZE....
MAGGIE BONANOMI'S
BUTTERNUT HOUSE WOOL APPLIQUE
FROM HER BOOK WITH THESE HANDS.
I'VE PERSONALIZED IT FOR KATHY AND HER
HUBBY BY ADDING THEIR NAME AND
WEDDING DATE, MINUS A HUNDRED YEARS.
INSTEAD OF SOLID BLACK FOR THE BACKGROUND
I USED A SUBTLE BLACK STRIPED WOOL.
I ALSO ADDED A BLACK PLAID HOMESPUN
TO THE BACK TO FINISH IT OFF AND DID
THE BUTTONHOLE STITCH IN BLACK
PEARL COTTON AROUND THE OUTSIDE EDGE
TO HOLD THE FRONT AND BACK TOGETHER.
CLICK ON THE PIC TO ENLARGE IT FOR
A BETTER LOOK. I DON'T DO WOOL APPLIQUE
VERY OFTEN SO IT WAS A NICE CHANGE
OF PACE FOR ME AND I REALLY ENJOYED
MAKING IT FOR KATHY.

IT WAS FUN TO DO AND KATHY SEEMED
TO REALLY LIKE IT. SHE CALLED TO SAY
SHE FOUND THE PERFECT SPOT FOR IT
ON A BUILT IN CUPBOARD SHE KEEPS
HER REDWARE IN.  I'LL TAKE A PICTURE OF
IT ON HER CUPBOARD NEXT TIME I'M OVER
AT HER HOUSE.

I JUST FINISHED THE BINDING ON
MY BIG STAR QUILT AND WASHED IT.
I LIKE TO WASH MY QUILTS FOR THAT
OLD PUCKERED LOOK AFTER I QUILT
AND BIND THEM. I'LL SHOW YOU HOW
IT TURNED OUT IN A DAY OR TWO.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI
