RUG FINISH

I FINISHED MY RUG LAST NIGHT AND STEAMED
IT BEFORE BED. I LOVE HOW THEY LOOK AFTER
STEAMING. SO SOFT AND PLIABLE.
ABOVE IS WITHOUT FLASH.
IT MEASURES 22" X 46".

ABOVE IS WITH THE FLASH SO YOU CAN
SEE THE VARIATIONS IN SHADING BETTER.
I USED SOME OF THE TREE BROWN IN THE
HORSE ON THE RIGHT AND LOVED THE ANTIQUE
LOOK OF IT SO I WENT BACK AND REVERSE
HOOKED A LITTLE ON THE HORSE ON
THE LEFT AS WELL.

THESE ARE THE WOOLS I USED.

I'M CONSIDERING SELLING A SMALL NUMBER
OF THIS PATTERN DRAWN ON LINEN BUT
I HAVE TO ORDER SOME LINEN SO I WILL
LET YOU KNOW IF/WHEN I HAVE SOME AVAILABLE.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

EARLY LADDERBACK ROCKER

HERE'S THE NEW ANTIQUE LADDERBACK
ROCKER WE PICKED UP THIS PAST WEEKEND
ON OUR LITTLE TRIP. I LOVE HOW IT'S NOT
PERFECT...JUST A BIT CROOKED....
INDICATING IT WAS MADE BY HAND LONG
YEARS AGO....CIRCA 1830. ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION.

LOVE THE ACORN STYLE FINIALS.

LOOK AT ALL THAT AGE! YOU CAN SEE
AN UNDERCOAT (RED) THRU THE BLACK ON THE BACK.
SOME NICE CRAZING SHOWING.

I LOVE THE ARMS. SO NICE AND WORN WITH AGE
BOTH THE UNDERCOAT AND TOP COAT WORN OFF
FROM YEARS OF ROCKING LEAVING A WONDERFUL
PATINA. HOW MANY BABIES WERE ROCKED HERE
IN ALMOST 200 YEARS?

THE WOVEN RUSH SEAT IS ORIGINAL AS WELL.
IT HAS SOME DAMAGE ALONG THE FRONT EDGE
BUT IS STILL STURDY. HOWEVER THE ROCKER
WILL BE OCCUPIED BY SOME OF MY DOLLS
TO BE SURE OF NO FURTHER DAMAGE.

THE SWEETEST OF ROCKERS.
I'M GLAD IT FOUND IT'S WAY INTO OUR HOME.

UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI

A GOOD START

ABOVE IS THE NEWEST RUG I'M HOOKING.

ABOVE IS THE ANTIQUE RUG I USED FOR INSPIRATION.
I WANT A DARKER LOOK SO AM USING EARTHY TONES
BUT DARKER THAN THE ANTIQUE RUG. FIRSTLY I KNEW
I WANTED MY HORSES TO BE BLACKS SO I STARTED
THERE. THE OUTSIDE BORDER IS BLACK ALSO.

I WANTED A DIFFERENT TREE THAN THE ANTIQUE RUG
USED. I WANTED SOMETHING SIMPLER AND PERHAPS
MORE FOLKY. I FOUND MY INSPIRATION IN ANOTHER
ANTIQUE RUG AND DREW MINE OUT BY HAND. ABOVE
IS THE TREE I WILL BE HOOKING ON MY RUG. THE RUG IS
A LONG ONE. I'M USING MOSTLY 8.5 CUTS SO I CAN GET
THE LOOK I WANT.

I'D LIKE TO THANK THOSE THAT LEFT SUCH SWEET
COMMENTS ABOUT MY SAMPLER. I SO APPRECIATE YOUR
KIND WORDS AND ALSO ALL THOSE THAT STOP BY EVEN
IF YOU DON'T COMMENT. I NEVER DREAMED WHEN I STARTED
BLOGGING, MY BLOG WOULD BE OF INTEREST TO SO MANY.
WITH ALL MY HEART...I THANK YOU.

UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI

SAMPLER FINISHED

FINALLY FINISHED THE SAMPLER I WAS DOING.
YOU MAY REMEMBER I HAD AN OLD FRAME I
WANTED TO USE SO I MADE THE UP MY OWN PATTERN
AS I WENT ALONG TO FIT THE FRAME.
IT'S VERY PLAIN AND SIMPLE BUT I DO LOVE THAT
ABOUT IT. I USED CHESTNUT LINEN BY WEEKS DYE WORKS
AND DMC DARK BROWN 3371 FLOSS.
I DID SEVERAL ALPHABETS AND NUMBERS.
I DECIDED TO USE MY MOTHERS MAIDEN
NAME WHICH WAS JUNE CLARK.
TO MAKE IT SOUND MORE EARLY I STITCHED
JUNIE FOR HER FIRST NAME. I ALSO USED
HER DATE OF BIRTH MAKING THE YEAR MINUS
A HUNDRED YEARS AND THE STATE SHE GREW UP
IN. TO END I FILLED IN WITH HER FAMILIES INITIALS.

HOPE ALL ARE WELL THAT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED
BY THE STORMS.

NEXT I WILL BE HOOKING A HORSE RUG INSPIRED
BY TWO ANTIQUE RUGS. I HAVE IT READY TO GO
SO CHECK BACK SOON TO SEE MY PROGRESS.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

STAR QUILT TOP

I FINISHED PUTTING MY SCRAPPY STAR QUILT TOP TOGETHER.
THE BLOCKS ARE 8" FINISHED AND IT IS SQUARE.
I'M NOT ADDING A BORDER.

THIS IS THE JO MORTON FABRIC I USED
FOR THE SET IN SQUARES.
I'M NOT SURE HOW I WILL HAND QUILT IT
YET BUT AM LEANING TOWARDS DIAGONAL
LINES. YOU SEE THAT ON OLD QUILTS AND IT
WILL GO PRETTY QUICKLY AN INCH APART.

UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO...

I'VE BEEN PIECING STAR BLOCKS THIS WEEK FOR A NEW
QUILT FOR OUR HOME. SCRAPPY WITH GOLDS, BROWNS,
REDS AND GREENS. I'M USING A JO MORTON PRINT FOR
SET IN SQUARES BETWEEN THE BLOCKS. IT'S A BLACK
PRINT WITH A TINY TAN/BROWN PRINT ON IT.
I HOPE TO GET THE TOP TOGETHER THIS WEEKEND.
I USED VARIOUS PRINTS AND HOMESPUNS FROM MY
COLLECTION. SOME I'VE HAD FOR 20 YEARS!

ALSO STARTED THIS LONG SAMPLER FOR OUR HOME.
I SET ASIDE THE CHRISTMAS ONE I WAS DOING FOR NOW
BUT WILL GET BACK TO THAT LATER. THE LINEN I'M
USING WAS A GIFT FROM KATHY AND IS CALLED
CHESTNUT. I ADORE IT! I'M USING DMC 3371
FOR THE LETTERING. I'VE HAD THIS OLD BLACK
PAINTED FRAME FOR A WHILE
AND WANTED TO MAKE A SAMPLER
TO FIT IT. SO THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO THIS SNOWY
COLD WINTER WEEK! HOPE YOU ARE KEEPING
BUSY WHERE YOU LIVE. GOTTA KEEP THAT
CREATIVE ENERGY ALIVE! MY NEXT
PROJECT FOR OUR HOME WILL BE A HORSE
RUG INSPIRED BY AN ANTIQUE RUG.
STAY TUNED FOR A PEEK SOON.

UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI
