OUR NEW....OLD TABLE

THIS IS OUR NEW CIRCA 1870~1880 DROP LEAF
FARM TABLE WITH GREEN PAINT.
I SAW IT ON PINTEREST AND FOLLOWED
THE LINK. THE SHOP HAPPENED TO BE
IN NORTHERN MN AND A 6~7 HOUR DRIVE
FROM US. I KNEW THAT WOULD BE DOABLE
TO PICK IT UP SO I BOUGHT IT.
I SOLD OUR REPRODUCTION TABLE TO MAKE
ROOM. WE WENT THIS PAST WEEKEND TO GET
IT. GOING UP THERE ON FRIDAY THE ROADS WERE BARE.
WE WENT RIGHT TO THE SHOP AND WITH THE OWNERS
HELP GOT IT COVERED GOOD IN PLASTIC WRAP
AND LOADED. WE SPENT THE NIGHT THERE
AND GOT UP EARLY TO START THE TRIP HOME
ON SATURDAY.
WE KNEW SNOW WAS PREDICTED BUT WE
WENT ANYWAY. THIS IS WHAT WE WOKE UP
TO. THE TABLE IS LOADED
IN OUR UTILITY TRAILER BEHIND MY CAR.
 IT STARTED COMING DOWN HEAVY
SO WE HIT THE ROAD BY 8 AM. WE DROVE
IN SNOW FOR OVER AN HOUR AND THEN IT TURNED
TO RAIN SO THE ROADS WERE JUST WET THEN.
THE PLASTIC COVERING GOT PLENTY
WET BUT THANKFULLY THE TABLE
WAS NICE AND DRY UNDERNEATH.
THE LEGS ARE TAPERED.
THERE IS A NARROW DRAWER ON EACH
SHORT END. ONE HAS SOME SECTIONS IN IT.
THE OTHER IS PERFECT FOR STORING
SOME PLACE MATS.
THE ONE LEAF MUST HAVE BEEN DOWN
FOR YEARS AS THE PAINT IS STILL PRETTY
GOOD ON IT AND THE REST OF THE TOP
HAS BEEN SCRUBBED CLEAN OVER THE YEARS.
I DON'T MIND....THAT IS THE HISTORY
AND CHARACTER OF THE PIECE.
BRIAN WAS SO CUTE THO...HE SAID WE
COULD LEAVE THAT SIDE DOWN! :-)
THERE IS A GOOD SIZE DIP IN THE TOP.
MAYBE A KNOT WAS THERE....MAYBE IT
JUST GOT WORN THERE FOR SOME REASON.
THE LEGS LOOK OAK TO ME AS THE PAINT
IS PRETTY WORN OFF THEM BUT THE TOP
IS PINE. IT'S A PERFECT FIT IN OUR DINING ROOM.
I ALSO FOUND THIS NEAT SMALLER TOTE WHILE THERE.
IT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF A BROWNISH LOOKING PAINT
STILL ON IT. VERY PRIMITIVE WITH SQUARE NAILS.

THE HANDLE CAUGHT MY EYE AS IT HAD THESE
NEAT CURVES ON EACH END TO MAKE IT UNIQUE.

A BIG THANK YOU TO SHOP OWNERS
BRUCE AND ELAINE PETERSON
OF BACK~ N~TIME ANTIQUES
IN BEMIDJI, MN.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

I love your table. What a great find, and so worth the drive I'm sure. I have a small wooden drop leaf table that was my grandmothers, but not near as old as yours. Blessings

What a wonderful table you've got there and the tote box is perfect. I have a thing for those tote type of boxes lol and the detail on that one is wonderful. You were only a couple of hours away from me. Now that's a road trip for a table lol. Enjoy - Karen

Hi Lori,
WOW! LOVE that table! The green paint is wonderful!
Oh I chucked at Brian's comment... Our guys may just never understand the thrill we get from a little of the old paint left on a piece and that just right scrubbed top!
Enjoy it and be sure and show us more pics!
Hugs!!!

Beautiful table! I'm glad you had a safe journey. I'd leave the green end up; it adds a great deal to the story of the piece.
