VISITING A QUILT SHOP

ON MONDAY I DID STOP IN AT
THE QUILT COTTAGE QUILT SHOP
IN HAZELHURST, WI. IT'S LONG BEEN
ONE OF MY FAVORITE QUILT SHOPS.
IT WAS FEATURED IN BETTER HOMES & GARDENS
QUILT SAMPLER MAGAZINE IN 2004.

THIS IS BARB, THE OWNER. SHE DIDN'T WANT
HER PICTURE TAKEN BUT I MADE HER!! hee hee

I TOOK SEVERAL PICTURES AROUND THE SHOP
TO SHOW YOU. YOU CAN CLICK ON THE PICS TO MAKE
THEM BIGGER AND SEE MORE.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU WOULD
LIKE TO INQUIRE ABOUT JUST GIVE BARB
A CALL AT 715-358-7074. THEY ARE
WORKING ON A WEBSITE.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE TOUR.

A LITTLE MORE REDWARE

HERE ARE A FEW MORE PIECES OF REDWARE
I'VE COLLECTED. ABOVE CUBBY IS IN
THE BATHROOM.

THIS IS ON THE SHELF IN THE BACK ENTRY.

IN THE KITCHEN

ALSO IN THE KITCHEN
I THINK THAT'S IT!

HOPE YOU ALL HAD A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL HERE YESTERDAY. WE
HAD SUN AND 60 DEGREES. SUPPOSED TO
BE NICE TODAY TOO.  ZOE AND I MAY TAKE
A LITTLE RIDE INTO WISCONSIN TODAY
TO A HEALTH FOOD STORE AND MAYBE A
PRIMITIVE QUILT SHOP. THINGS ARE SPREAD OUT
SO I'LL SEE HOW THE TIME GOES AND WHAT I
FEEL LIKE DOING. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
UNTIL NEXT TIME......LORI

MY REDWARE

I'VE LONG LOVED REDWARE. I DON'T OWN ANY
ANTIQUE PIECES BUT I HAVE SOME VERY NICELY
DONE REPRODUCTIONS MOSTLY BY
TURTLECREEK POTTERS.

THIS IS AN EDYTH O'NEILL RUG PATTERN.
I JUST LOVE IT AND THE COLORS GO SO WELL
WITH THE REDWARE.

I'VE FINISHED STITCHING MY ZILPHA C. MOSS
SAMPLER. IT'S BEEN AGED AND I GOT IT
ON THE FOAM CORE BOARD YESTERDAY. I
ORDERED A LONG PINE FRAME FROM MY FRIEND
BILL SO WHEN THAT'S READY I CAN PAINT THE FRAME
AND PUT IT TOGETHER. I DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL
IT'S FRAMED TO SHOW YOU THE END RESULTS. I AM
PLEASED WITH HOW THE AGING LOOKS ON IT.

NOW I AM TRYING TO FINISH THE QUILTING ON MY
SCHOOLHOUSE QUILT. I AM DOING THE BORDERS
NOW BUT IT WILL TAKE ME A FEW DAYS AND THEN
I WILL HAVE TO BIND IT.

OUR SPRING TURNED TO WINTER AGAIN. WE'VE
HAD SOME VERY COLD NIGHTS WITH FROST AND
SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOW ON THE WEEKEND.
MOST OF THAT IS GONE AGAIN BUT WE DID HAVE
LIGHT SNOW FLURRIES IN THE AIR YESTERDAY.
I'VE BEEN PUTTING BIRDSEED OUT FOR THE POOR
BIRDS. WISHING YOU ALL A LOVELY DAY.
UNTIL NEXT TIME......LORI

DOUBLE PINKS & MOSS SAMPLER PROGRESS

I WAS THINKING ABOUT DOUBLE PINKS AND
GOT OUT AN ANTIQUE BONNET AND A DOLL QUILT I
MADE SOME YEARS AGO TO SHOW YOU.
THE QUILT IS MADE FROM ANTIQUE FABRICS
EXCEPT FOR THE DOUBLE PINK WHICH IS A REPRO.

A CLOSE UP OF THE SWEET LITTLE BONNET

THIS QUILT DESIGN IS MONKEY WRENCH. A
NICE TRADITIONAL PATTERN THAT IS EASY TO DO.
JUST HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES AND SQUARES.
I DON'T HAVE THESE COLORS OUT ANYMORE
BUT I STILL LIKE THE COMBINATION OF
THE DOUBLE PINKS, BLACK, SHIRTING'S
 AND INDIGO'S TOGETHER.

I'VE BEEN STITCHING AND MY MOSS SAMPLER IS
NEARING COMPLETION. YAY! THE OTHER
DAY AT KATHY'S WE EACH ENDED UP
BRINGING A SAMPLER TO STITCH. KATHY
WAS DOING ONE FROM BLACKBIRD DESIGNS,
GAIL AND MAREE WERE DOING TWO DIFFERENT
ONES FROM COUNTRY RUSTIC PRIMITIVES AND I
MY MOSS. IT WAS FUN TO SEE WHAT EVERYONE
WAS WORKING ON.

TODAY WE ARE GETTING A LITTLE MORE SNOW.
THE POOR ROBINS ARE WISHING THEY
HAD WAITED A BIT LONGER!

WISHING YOU A WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
UNTIL NEXT TIME......LORI

MID WEEK FUN

TODAY I WILL BE GOING TO MY FRIEND KATHY'S
HOUSE FOR A LITTLE DAY OF FUN. TWO OTHER FRIENDS
WILL COME ALSO SO THERE WILL BE FOUR OF US.
WE BRING OUR OWN LUNCH TO KEEP IT
SIMPLE AND BRING SOMETHING TO WORK ON
WHILE WE VISIT. I'LL BE BRINGING MY MOSS BAND
SAMPLER. I'VE MADE SOME HEADWAY SINCE I SHOWED
YOU MY PROGRESS THE OTHER DAY.

ABOVE IS A SAMPLER I MADE A FEW YEARS AGO.
IT'S STITCHED ON EVEN WEAVE. I USED A PATTERN
BY FINE FANCYWORK FOR THE HOUSES AND WHAT IS
BETWEEN THEM AND THEN DID MY OWN THING FOR THE
REST. THE VERSE IS FROM AN OLD HYMN. I BOUGHT
THE FRAME FROM GOODWILL, PAINTED AND AGED IT.
THE CRADLE AND FIRKIN ARE OLD.

THIS DOUBLE NINE PATCH QUILT IS A FAVORITE
AND IS A PATTERN BY JO MORTON. THE LITTLE DRESS
HANGING ON THE CUPBOARD IS AND OLD ONE.
IT LOOKS PINK BUT IT'S MORE A CRANBERRY RED.

WELL, I BETTER TAKE MY ZOE GIRL FOR A LITTLE WALK
BEFORE I GO. WISHING EVERYONE A WONDERFUL DAY.
I HOPE YOU CAN FIND A FEW MINUTES TO DO
SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOUR HEART SING.

UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

ZILPHA C. MOSS PROGRESS

I'VE BEEN STITCHING SOME ON MY MOSS SAMPLER BUT WAS SLOWED DOWN WHEN I DECIDED TO CHANGE OUT ONE AREA THAT HAD SEVERAL DIFFERENT CROWNS TO DIFFERENT BIRDS.
I USED A BOOK WITH ANIMAL MOTIFS FROM ANTIQUE SAMPLERS FOR MY BIRD DESIGNS. IT'S CALLED ANIMALS FROM EARLY SAMPLERS BY MARSHA VAN VALIN AND CAN BE PURCHASED ON MARSHA'S WEBSITE. CLICK ON HER NAME AND YOU'LL GET THE BOOK TO COME UP.
HERE'S A CLOSE UP OF THE BIRDS I USED. I WAS GOING TO JUST USE THE ONE COLOR ON THE WHOLE SAMPLER BUT I USED DMC 611 ON THE LARGE BIRDS WINGS. I'LL USE IT AGAIN, A LITTLE HERE AND A LITTLE THERE ON THE REST OF THE PATTERN.

COULDN'T RESIST A COUPLE RECENT PICS OF ZOE AND BRIAN. SHE DOES LOVE HER DADDY!

I'M STILL WORKING ON THE SCHOOLHOUSE QUILT. I HAVE HALF THE BLOCKS QUILTED. I'M OVER HALF DONE ON THE MOSS SAMPLER. AND I HAVE
LOTS OF OTHER THINGS GOING AROUND IN MY HEAD TO GET TO!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. UNTIL NEXT TIME....LORI

SOME PROGRESS

I'VE BEEN ABLE TO WORK ON MY ZILPHA C. MOSS SAMPLER SOME AND THIS IS WHAT I'VE GOTTEN DONE SO FAR. IT'S A FUN ONE TO DO. THE LETTERS ARE NICE AND BIG. I'M STITCHING IT ON 32 COUNT LINEN. I'M LIKING HOW IT'S LOOKING SO FAR IN THE ONE COLOR.
I WAS ABLE TO GET MY SCHOOLHOUSE QUILT
BASTED LAST FRIDAY SO I'VE BEGUN THE
QUILTING PROCESS. I'M QUILTING AS SUGGESTED
BY CAROLE IN HER PATTERN. IT ENDS UP LOOKING
LIKE GRADUATED SQUARES. THIS IS WHAT
I HAVE DONE SO FAR. NOW JUST 8 MORE HOUSE
BLOCKS AND THE BORDERS! I AM ENJOYING IT THO.

I HOPE ALL IS WELL IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS.
UNTIL NEXT TIME.....LORI
